TO MY FAN BASE AND ALL NEWCOMERS: THANK YOU!

Hey, I could get to like this stuff!

I’d like to thank everyone who came to my recent reading at the Cornelia Street Cafe, which made it such a pleasant evening for me, despite weather which would have been more appropriate to downtown Verkhoyansk. (For the geographically challenged, that’s in Siberia, a tad north of the Arctic circle, in an area which goes by two names: the Cold Pole of the Earth or Stalin’s Death Ring — take your pick.)

In any event, the atmosphere inside was warm and friendly. Angelo Verga, the ringmaster at Cornelia, is a wonderful host, and I was pleased to be reading on the same platform with David Joel Friedman, who entertained the audience from his Pulitzer Prize-nominated book of prose-poems called, The Welcome.

For those of you who couldn’t make it, I read the complete short story, “Looking for Nemerov”, which is available from the Fiction section of my website (which links to Pindedyboz, where it was published), followed by a selection from my forthcoming novel, Wounded by History. Wounded is scheduled to issue forth from Cantarabooks in June, when there will be a book party, to which every aunt, uncle, cousin, fourth grand-nephew once removed, teacher, student, ex-boss, plus close friends, distant friends, strangers off the street, and all of the rest of you will be invited. And I finished off my set with a short segment from “The Spaniard”, a short story published in the eighties in Karamu, which I hope to bring out some time next year in a collection of pieces set on a corporation farm like the one I grew up on in the fifties, called Silvercreek Days. (A working title; don’t hold me to it.)

In any event, thank you all for helping me enjoy myself. In the future, in addition to giving public readings, I may actually record some of my work, making it available for downloading or on cds. Keep checking my website for those details!
