Jim Story & Matthew Lansburgh: Readings from their new and recent work.

Dec 4th Story_Lansburgh Headshots

Come celebrate the holiday season with us
at this all-fiction, early-evening delight!

Jim will read pieces from three works. His novel Problems of Translation—"Exceptional, original, deftly crafted from beginning to end" (Midwest Book Review)—has been called "An insanely amusing adventure" (Gary Shteyngart). A new novel, The Condor's Shadow—a story of twisted courage and a struggle for connection—is being readied for publication while Jim completes Soil, Sand, Stories, a family saga in linked short fiction. His short stories have appeared in Confrontation, The Same, Karamu, Folio, and other literary publications.

Matthew's collection of linked stories, Outside Is the Ocean, won the 2017 Iowa Short Fiction Award. A finalist for the Lambda Literary and Ferro-Grumley Awards, it has been praised by Andre Dubus III ("mesmerizing"), Kirkus ("arresting and pointed"), Margot Livesey ("a brilliant collection"), and The Portland Press Herald (a "graceful and empathetic chronicle of fractured family life"). Matthew's fiction appears in journals such as Glimmer Train, Ecotone, Electric Literature, StoryQuarterly, Columbia, Michigan Quarterly Review, and Guernica.
